Help Me Understand

 In Uncategorized

I didn’t know what I should write about this week. And I’m sorry to say, it’s more than just my typical, lazy, I-hate-blogs rant—though that is still true.

It’s just that there’s so much going on in the world that confuses me. And while I’m not averse to filling this page with questions, I at least like to have my own snarky, smart-ass answer even if I don’t know the real one.

But honestly, this time around, I’m stumped. Maybe the picture that goes with this blog this week should be a cut-down tree.

Know what I mean? I’d say I was digressing, but I truly don’t have anything to digress from. I mean, I pride myself on not being political. I think it’s divisive, especially right now, so I try not to play.

Help Me UnderstandWhich honestly makes me feel like an albino Bigfoot trying to get a beautician to insert a ruby into my navel before my Persian belly dancing class graduation so I can go and entertain the angels dancing on the head of a pin.

So, like the beer commercial—this blog’s for you. I’ll ask the questions and you can answer them for yourself.

Or answer them for me, because for some of these, I don’t have the first clue. Ready?

1. If a famous person points out something that actually happened and expresses concern about it, how does that person end up being demonized and criticized by people who actually agreed with her about that incident? Because she’s rich? Because of when and where she said it?

I’m not taking a stand here. I’m honestly asking because I can’t wrap my head around it. Please explain.

2. Is who you decided to pin your hopes on in an election really worth alienating your friends and family? Insulting and abusing them? Didn’t we used to agree to disagree, or am I just misremembering?

3. And if someone backed a particular horse and is about to feel negative consequences of their decision, why are we reveling in their suffering? Are they bad people because they were wrong, or, as some say, deluded or bamboozled? Isn’t that petty?

4. Do we all still have a right to our own opinion? To think it? To speak it? Even if we’re wrong?

I mean, my neighbor has a hideous puke-green car that he adores and actually shows off. I think he’s wrong and tasteless but we still sit around his fire pit on autumn evenings and have fun BS-ing.

Okay. I said I wouldn’t answer. Sorry. But trust me, if you saw this car…

Next week, I promise, something about writing. Muse or no muse.

I’ll expect your answers on my desk in the morning.
